Music Curriculum

The music curriculum for this unit is based on aerobic exercise and composition techniques. For the first week, students will split in to groups of six, where they will then brainstorm aerobic movements that also produce some sound. This can include stomping, clapping, skipping, snapping, etc., but each movement must have an aerobic component. Once they have compiled a comprehensive list, each group will get to work figuring out which movements they want to do in order to create a rhythmic composition. Students will spend several days creating this rhythm set in class, making sure that it includes a steady beat, an identifiable meter and motif, and several verses. At this point the students will transpose their creation onto sheet music. As a culminating project, students will create aerobic musical workout videos that feature their songs, which will be displayed at the Healthy Living Fair.
